License activation & Transfer

You want to activate your PLA 3.0 license in your environment or transfer an existing license to another computer? Have a look at the topics below for details on each use case.

For details on the available licensing options, please go to Licensing options.

PLA 3.0 licenses are tied to the computer on which you activate the license. If you want to reinstall the operating system of the computer that holds the license, replace the hard drive, rename the computer, or retire the computer, you have to transfer the license to a different computer before starting any of these actions.

Activate your PLA 3.0 license

To activate your PLA 3.0 license, you have to install a protection key in your environment. You install the protection key depending on to our licensing option on a local system, a license server, or a computer that acts as a license server. For more details, please go to Deployment scenarios.

Once installed, the protection key provides the five-digit serial number required to activate the license keys. We support software- and hardware-based Sentinel protection keys as well as legacy hardlock keys.

For help on how to install a software key, please consult the »How-to Guide« Activating your PLA 3.0 license or watch the »Tutorial video« Activate your PLA 3.0 license. For help on how to install other protection key types, please consult the PLA 3.0 Installation and Licensing Guide.

Transfer your PLA 3.0 license

Temporarily transfer a license for example, if you want to reinstall the operating system of the computer that holds the license, or if you want to rename the computer.

Permanently transfer a license to a different computer for example, if you want to retire the computer that currently holds the license. In this case you transfer the license from the source computer to the recipient computer.

For help on the steps, please consult the »How-to Guide« Transferring your PLA 3.0 license or watch the »Tutorial video« Transfer your PLA 3.0 license to another computer.
